I find it interesting to know that the reason we have free use of emailing, which is somewhat vital in our daily lives, is because of Ray Tomlinson. For me, I was never curious as to where email originated from who made it. To me, it was part of the Internet and I don't have to pay for it. Learning now that Timlinson created it back in the 1970's, and had several opportunities to patent it and make millions, if not billions of dollars off this simple piece of software, is somewhat humbling. I'm more or less glad that he decided against patenting it, because I know that given the same opportunity, I would have probably wouldn't have been as generous.
